Westman Zone New Business Spotlight!
Welcome to the first edition of this great new feature designed to help provide more exposure for new businesses in Manitoba.
The first local business owner up to bat is Brett Warbeck representing Warlock Lid Co.
Westman Zone: Where is your company based?
Brett Warbeck: Killarney, MB
WZ: When did you start your company?
BW: March 1, 2022, is when I took over the business from Tanner Cole
WZ: Do you run things independently or do you have staff?
BW: I run things on my own
WZ: Do you just sell lids (hats) or do you have other products?
BW: Currently I have hats but I will be adding hoodies and other apparel in the near future.
WZ: I like the look of your Toba hats! How did you come up with the idea for them?
BW: A lot of people are proud of their province and figured this was a great way to show your pride in Manitoba. Going to build on the designs and offer different variations of everything Manitoba themed.
WZ: What other services does your company provide?
BW: We are offering fundraising programs for hockey teams this winter. Offering up custom-designed hats with team logos and a Toba logo on them as well.
WZ: I assume you sell mainly to Canadians but there could be folks from other countries purchasing your products, if so, what’s the most outlandish location you’ve received an order from and what did they purchase?
BW: I have shipped 3 Toba hats to Australia and just had an order for a Toba hat from New York.
WZ: You currently have hats and accessories that are Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Ontario specific. Do you have any plans to make hats for other Canadian provinces?
BW: Yes I am planning on moving east with our designs over winter and offering up provincial designs for all our great provinces in 2023.
WZ: On your website, it says your lids are perfect for wearing to a Jets + Bomber game or throwing on for a casual Friday at the Winnipeg Ballet. Do you personally know anyone who has worn one of your lids out to a ballet?
BW: Haha no I haven’t known anyone off hand that has attended the ballet wearing a Toba hat. But I’ve seen Berta hats at the saddle dome, Sask hats at Mosaic Field cheering on the riders and Dallas Smith has worn on stage at the CCMA before!
