Brandon’s annual wedding show re-opens doors this Sunday!

After a 2 year break due to pandemic restrictions, the WESTMAN WEDDING EXPO returns to Brandon this weekend.  The event will feature 40 businesses from nearly all wedding professions, including photography, entertainment, venues, catering, and much more.

The Expo, an annual wedding planning and organizing tradeshow, was started in 2009 by local wedding business owners when previously organized wedding show cancelled at last minute.  It grew from just a few vendors in one room, to a large show that took over two large rooms at the Keystone Centre.  At times, it boasted fashion shows, educational workshops and the Ultimate Wedding Giveaway with a value $25,000.00.

“This year we’re bringing the show back to it’s humble beginnings at the Victoria Inn,” says Bryan Podworny, the show organizer and owner of local DJ & MC company, Expressions Entertainment.  “We’ve filled both the Grand Salon and Salon 1 full of wedding pros, and everyone’s super excited to be back to where we can talk face to face with people that are getting married.”

Through the pandemic, the wedding industry was hit hard, with many businesses not able to survive the lack of events.  Those that were able to make it through, are doing their best to make it up not only financially, but with mental health in mind as well.

“My first wedding after the shutdown felt like a reboot.  Getting back into planning felt good, and I think my work improved a bit,” notes Dauphin photographer, Henrik Langer of Henrik Langer Photography. “I missed the excitement.” Langer will see the return of wedding excitement this weekend as an expected 600 people take in the show.

In place of a fashion show, the 2023 edition of the Expo will feature something new, the Fun Weddings Workshop.  Over the course of 2 hours, couples will learn ways to engage and connect guests to their wedding with fun activities, personalization, and good preparation.  It will be hosted by Podworny, with additional input from Blue Moffat, manager of Asessippi Weddings near Inglis, and Henrik Langer of Henrik Langer Photography in Dauphin.

The Westman Wedding Expo will be held this Sunday January 22, 2023 at the Victoria Inn & Conference Centre at 3550 Victoria Ave in Brandon.  Doors are open to the public from 11:00 am until 4:00 pm.  The Fun Weddings Conference will run from 2:00 pm until 4:00 pm.  Admission to the Expo is $10.00 cash at the door, and those 16 & under free. For those attending the workshop paying an additional $10.00 per person.  All proceeds from the workshop will go to the United Way Brandon and District.
