Upgraded Surveillance System at Keystone Centre

IMMEDIATE NEWS RELEASE August 19, 2022

BRANDON, MB – The Keystone Centre has replaced the facility-wide surveillance system, improving the facility, guest, and staff security. “The upgrade and replacement of the facility’s aging surveillance system is a long-anticipated improvement,” says Jeff Schumacher, Keystone Centre CEO & general manager. “It’s not only an improvement that will increase the safety of our patrons, staff, and partners but one that will also enable us to provide a higher level of confidence to our clients holding multi-day events here at the facility, where equipment may be on-site during hours of lower staff presence.”

The Keystone Centre has received partial funding through the Brandon Area Community Foundation to assist with the upgrade and replacement of the facility’s aging surveillance system. The system will have coverage in Westoba Place, the Westoba Credit Union Agricultural Centre of Excellence, the facility’s expansive outdoor grounds, and all other key areas. “Brandon Area Community Foundation (BACF) is pleased to support the surveillance system at the Keystone Centre,” states Michelle Hood, Chairperson of BACF. “The Foundation has a passion to contribute to such projects that increase safety for the public and the people who work there.” Summus Inc., a Westman-based security contractor, headquartered in Douglas, MB, secured the rights to the project after a competitive tender process. “Summus is proud to have this opportunity to design, construct and install a state-of-the-art security video solution right here at home,” says Ted Dzogan, owner & president of Summus Inc.” We've spent 22 years travelling across Canada, providing solutions just like this in places like Toronto, Ottawa and Winnipeg. Deploying those skills and experiences to keep our friends, families and neighbours safe here in Brandon at the Keystone Centre has an emotional payoff that's greater than just doing a job to get paid.

At every turn, the Keystone Centre staff has been focused on creating a safe, family-friendly environment for their facility and this is exactly what we want from them as a customer but also as a community member. Each and every one of our staff members that worked on this project attended and enjoy events at the Keystone Centre. We could not take this job more seriously, because we know the people we are working to keep safe.” Installation of the brand new, state-of-the-art system is currently underway, with more than 90% of the project completed, and the expectation is that the whole installation will be finished by the beginning of the upcoming events season.
