UPDATE: Brandon Police Arrest Homicide Suspect


 

Homicide – Update Suspect Arrested

 

Following an investigation into the murder of 31-year-old Andre KATZENELLENBOGEN on Saturday June 10, 2023, members of Brandon Police Service Major Crime Unit arrested 36-year-old Dennis Garrison BLACKSMITH on June 15, 2023.  He will appear in court today on a charge of Manslaughter.

 

The investigation revealed that following a verbal altercation between the victim and the suspect, which lead to a physical altercation, the victim received several injuries including a stab wound.

 

The deceased and the accused were not known to each other.

 

Original release from June 10, 2023:

At 0442 hrs on Saturday morning, officers responded to a fight in progress in the 700 block of Louise Ave.  Before police arrived, a 911 caller reported one of the men fighting was injured and required an ambulance. 

 

Officers located a male with serious injuries in the 700 block of Louise ave.  An ambulance attended and transported the victim to BRHC where he succumbed to his injuries.

 


 

Assault with a Weapon

On June 14, 2023, police responded to a report of a male assaulting a female with a bat in the 100 block of 16th street at approximately 7:00 pm.  Police located the two individuals and arrested the 33-year-old male suspect.  He was to abide by conditions not to have any communication with the victim.  He was lodged at Brandon Police Service and will appear in court today on charges of Assault with a Weapon, Fail to comply with Undertaking and Fail to Comply with Release Order.

 

The 30-year-old female victim received medical treatment from paramedics, and was released following her treatment, as her injuries were minor.  She too was found to be in breach of release conditions and was arrested.  She was later released to appear in court on August 17, 2023 on a charge of Fail to comply with Release Order.

 


 

Possession of Meth

On June 15, 2023 shortly after 2:00 pm, police stopped a male cyclist in the 200 block of 9th street.  The bike was determined to have been stolen, and police attempted to arrest the 45-year-old male suspect but he physically resisted.  Once he was in police custody and searched, officers found he was in possession of approximately 17 grams of meth.  He was later released and will appear in court on August 10, 2023 on charges of Possession of Property Obtained by Crime, Resist Arrest, and CDSA - Possession of Meth.

 


 

 

Arrest Warrants

On June 14, 2023, police located and arrested a 51-year-old male who was wanted on outstanding charges of Uttering Threats and Theft Under $5000.  He was later released to appear in court on August 17, 2023.

 

On June 14, 2023, shortly before 11:00 pm, police responded to a request to remove an unwanted female from a residence as she was refusing to leave.  Police learned that the 47-year-old female was wanted on an outstanding charge of Fail to Appear in Court.  Following her arrest, she was lodged at Brandon Police Service and will appear in court today.

 


 

 

Breach of the Peace

On June 14, 2023, shortly after 11:00 pm, police responded to a report of an intoxicated male causing problems in a residence.  The male was given an opportunity to go home, but he returned to the residence and continued to cause problems.  He was arrested and lodged at Brandon Police Service and will be released once sober.

 

On June 15, 2023, shortly after midnight, police responded to a report of a disturbance near a business in the 700 block of 10th street.  Investigation revealed an intoxicated 30-year-old male was responsible, as he was chasing other individuals in the area. He was arrested and lodged at Brandon Police Service to prevent his actions from continuing.  He will be released once sober.

 


 

Break and Enter to Residential Garage

On June 15, 2023 shortly before 4:00 am, police observed an open door to a garage in the 1100 block of 22nd street.  Investigation revealed that the door had been forced open, as there was damage to the frame.  Police spoke with the home owners who noted that while the garage had been rummaged through, it did not appear that anything was missing.
