SOUTHWEST BRANDON SERVICING PROJECT UPDATE HAS POSITIVE IMPLICATIONS FOR ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT AND HOUSING OPPORTUNITIES

Brandon, MB – The City of Brandon is excited to share the progress of the Southwest Brandon Wastewater Servicing project, a key initiative to enhance the city's infrastructure and support economic development and housing opportunities.

Phase 1 of this project, which is planned to be completed in approximately 18 months, will create a modern and reliable sewer system that will serve the growing needs of the southwest area of the city. This will enable the development of new residential properties, as well as improve the connectivity and efficiency of the existing network. Some of the highlights of the project are:

  • A new lift station at the corner of 34th St and Patricia Ave, which will provide wastewater service to the Brookwood South and the western half of Bellafield neighbourhoods.

  • Building a gravity sewer to service Brookwood South and the east side of Bellafield.

  • Building a forcemain on Patricia Avenue, linking to the current forcemain of the South End Lift Station.

  • Fibre optic cables that will connect the communication network to each lift station, ensuring fast, reliable and secure data transmission.

The City of Brandon is pleased to partner with the Canada Infrastructure Bank, which has offered a low-interest loan that will save our community millions of dollars in the long term. The project is ultimately funded through the Development Charge (DC) Reserves, which receive contribution from developers when they build subdivisions.

On Monday, June 17, City Council will receive an update on this project and consider the request to allocate an additional $4 million from the already authorized borrowing by-law. Detailed design of the phase 2 lift station will also proceed.

This project is a strategic investment that will boost the city's economy, attract new businesses and residents, and improve the quality of life for our community. "City Council is committed to making our city ready for future development and opportunities ahead. We will continue to work with other levels of government to partner with us in this essential infrastructure project for Brandon," says Mayor Jeff Fawcett.
