UPDATE: Uptick of Residents Testing Positive in The Latest COVID Outbreak at Fairview Home

Latest COVID Outbreak at Fairview Home Now Into Week Two

Fairview Home continues to work diligently through this latest COVID outbreak. The long-term care home first reported the outbreak on October 21 and provided an update Friday, October 28th.

There are currently 11 COVID-positive cases and 20 residents in isolation on the 1st floor. On the 4th floor, there are 19 positive and a total of 31 residents in isolation.

Support staff such as Educators, Dietitians, and Infection Prevention Control staff have been brought in to help alleviate the situation. Mental Health support staff are now available at the site to help staff, residents, and family members if requested.

As always, Fairview Home's top priority is the care of its residents. Therefore, residents are checking on residents on an hourly basis at a minimum and more frequently as needed. To help with this the long-term care facility has brought in additional nurses, health care aides and clerical staff.

Fairview Home's Management realizes that having residents on additional precautions is very hard on them; therefore, they have implemented the following to help residents through this trying time:

• Offering of special treats for residents

• Adding a “Joke of the day” on meal tray

• Recreation staff visit residents in their rooms to provide extra socialization and activity

• Helping to facilitate virtual visits with families.

Designated Family Caregivers are still allowed to visit during this outbreak following the protocol of Fairview Home's previous visitation process. During visits, precautions and provisions related to PPE/hand hygiene/self-screening or screening by a staff member will continue to be followed.

Fairview Home reported another COVID outbreak (Friday, October 21, 2022). The 238-bed long term personal care home located at 1351 – 13th Street in Brandon has dealt with several COVID outbreaks since the beginning of the pandemic. While not as statistically grievous in terms of tenants affected and overall strain on staff and resources, this latest outbreak is significant.

The 4th floor is the most area affected area within the facility. There are currently 12 positive residents and 26 residents in isolation. There is also one positive resident on 3rd floor. No COVID related deaths have been reported during this latest outbreak. Extra staff has been brought in to help care for all residents. With the top priority being the care of residents, Fairview staff are checking tenants regularly – at minimum hourly and more frequently as needed.

Designated Family Caregivers are still allowed to visit during this outbreak as per the site’s previous visitation process. During visits, DFCs use the same precautions and provisions related to PPE/hand hygiene/screening.
