Brandon Police Service Media Release, May 21, 2022
Brandon Police Service was kept busy Friday night with numerous calls regarding public disturbances including separate shooting and stabbing reports.
Stabbing
At 12:05 a.m. today, police attended an apartment in the 700 block of 6th Street for a reported stabbing. On scene, police located a 21-year male who was intoxicated and was suffering from lacerations to his arm believed to have been caused by an edged weapon. The victim and all persons on the scene were intoxicated and refused to cooperate with police or provide any information, other than disclosing that an unknown person had forced their way into the apartment and assaulted the victim. The 21-year-old was cleared medically at the hospital and detained in BPS cells overnight. He was detained without charge and will be released later today when sober.
Shooting
At 12:55 a.m. today, passersby located a male waving down vehicles in the area of 18th Street and Rosser Avenue, and asking for help as he had been shot. The adult male from Brandon was confirmed on police arrival to be suffering from a wound to his leg caused by a firearm. Officers applied a tourniquet to the victim’s leg to prevent blood loss and turned him over to the care of BFES upon their arrival, who then transported the victim to the hospital. Police searched the immediate area but were unable to locate a firearm or any evidence that the male had been shot near that intersection. He was transported to BRHC by BFES to receive medical care for his non-life-threatening injuries. This matter remains under active investigation and no further details will be released at this time. It is believed that there is no danger to the public given the victim’s prior involvement with police and deep entrenchment with the criminal subculture. The victim was uncooperative with police and refused to provide any information to investigators.
