Grandparent Scam
We have received reports from individuals today regarding the grandparent scam being active again in Brandon. Suspects are phoning potential victims and instructing them to transfer money in a variety of manners in order to secure the release of their loved one.
Please talk with people in your life who may not yet be aware of this fraud to help prevent them from becoming a victim. So far, in all of the reports we are aware of, the potential victim did not send any money.
If you received a phone call from someone claiming to be a loved one in trouble, and needing money to secure their release from police custody, do not provide the caller and information and hang up. Immediately call the family member or another family member to verify your suspicions.
