What a difference a year makes! Last year it was so hot people were wishing for more shade, this year many people were wishing they had brought a jacket. Temperatures during the 2022 edition of Sand Hills Casino's car show hit the mid-30s and with the humidex even hotter, many people chose not to venture out. During the 2023 edition of the show the mercury struggled to hit 20 Celsius and the breeze was steady but mother nature spared the crowd with no rain.
However, there was a period of extremely heavy downpours near Portage earlier in the day. The rain was so heavy at times some car show participants who ventured in from Winnipeg almost turned around and went back but they were glad they decided to continue. The 2023 edition of the Sand Hills Annual Car Show was a huge success as 287 classic vehicles were registered. That's a little over 100 more than the number of participants last year.
All vehicle registrants in the show enjoyed a free BBQ, Free event T-Shirt (While supplies lasted) and free entertainment provided by "Damn Straight" a powerhouse country/rock band out of Winnipeg (captured in action below).
Those who entered their classic vehicle were also entered into six random cash draws worth $200.00 each! The Casino's Choice winner of $600.00 was the owner of a 1996 Jaguar (pictured below).
Thankfully, the rain stayed away and the crowds who lined up for the BBQ could enjoy their tasty lunch. In total, 1100+ BBQ burgers were served! As of press time, the number of casino visitors peaked at 500+ and a reported 1600+ visitors entered the casino throughout the day.
Sand Hills Casino's next big event is the annual Bike Show, Sunday, August 20th starting at 9 am. Participants will be treated to a free BBQ, event t-shirt, free live entertainment with ZZ-Topless and several cash draws as well as Casino's Choice Best Bike.
