(November 22, 2023) – For the third consecutive year, PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Canada’s elite Cup Series will buck into Brandon, Manitoba, holding the PBR Brandon Chute Out at Westoba Place at the Keystone Centre on May 25, 2024. PBR Canada’s Cup Series regularly features Canada’s best riders alongside some of the organization’s top international athletes, squaring off against the rankest bucking bulls from across the nation.
For one night only, fans will witness exhilarating 8-second rides and wrecks throughout the unpredictable, acon-packed event as the PBR’s courageous bull-riding athletes face off against their 2,000-pound opponents born to buck.
The PBR Brandon Chute Out will mark the third event of the nine-event regular season for PBR Canada’s premier Cup Series in 2024.
When the Cup Series last travelled to Brandon in May 2023, in front of a near-capacity crowd, Aaron Roy (Yellow Grass, Saskatchewan) delivered a flawless 2-for-2 performance to win the tour stop.
Less than 24 hours after earning his first victory of the season, dominating the Touring Pro Division event in nearby Winnipeg, Roy climbed aboard Emerald Inn (X6 Ranch Bucking Cattle/B2 Braithwaite Ranches) in Round 1 inside Westoba Place at The Keystone Centre.
In what proved to be a perfect pairing, three-time PBR Canada Champion Roy dominated the bull en route to the whistle, marking 85.5 points.
Roy then selected The Remedy (X6 Ranch Bucking Cattle/B2 Braithwaite Ranches) as his championship-round opponent. Remaining in what seemed to be perfect time with the animal athlete, Roy was initially called for a buck off past the 7.6-second mark. He challenged the call and after the judges’ review was deemed to have made the requisite 8, marked a victory-clinching 89 points.
Courtesy of the win, Roy garnered a crucial 116 national points, vaulting from No. 11 to No. 3 in the fierce title race.
When the elite Canadian Cup Series debuted in Brandon in June 2022, young gun Blake Smith (Abbey, Saskatchewan) delivered a flawless 2-for-2 performance to win the event.
In Round 1, Smith was in perfect time with Confused Mind (X6 Ranch Bucking Cattle/Legend Rodeo Stock), reaching the requisite 8 for 83.5 points, tying for the round win.
Smith then used his early pick in the Round 2 bull draft to select Crossfire’s Black Jack (Lazy S Bucking Bulls), a decision which proved dividends. Smith matched the powerful animal athlete jump-for-jump, and the electric crowd erupted in cheer as he reached the whistle for an event-best 87 points.
Edging past the runner-up contender by a mere 2 points in the aggregate, Smith’s score clinched the victory.
The bull riding action for PBR Canada Cup Series’ Brandon Chute Out, begins at 7:00 p.m. CST on Saturday, May 25.
Tickets for the event go on sale Friday, November 24 at 10:00 a.m. CST, and start at $30, standard ticketing fees may apply and be purchased at the Westoba Place at the Keystone Centre Box Office and online at Ticketmaster.ca.
