Update on BRHC Expansion Project

More Traffic Changes During BRHC Expansion

Visitors to the Brandon Regional Health Centre will notice more traffic changes due to the ongoing construction for the $70 Million Dollar expansion of the facility. The changes are necessary for traffic flow and parking purposes on and around the area of the hospital.

McTavish Avenue will be closed off from the west side of the traffic loop up to the emergency entrance ramp. The entrance doors of the emergency department is strictly for staff and shall not be used as a pick up or drop-off service into the BRHC.

The main public entrance as well as the traffic loop are still accessible from Russell Street southward, it’s currently the only public entrance to the BRHC. Due to the congestion of traffic during construction hospital representatives remind visitors of the BRHC that the loop is strictly used for picking up and drop off only. As a safety precaution, a cover over the walkway leading into the main entrance has been constructed. Parking is less of an issue around the hospital now that the new north side main parking lot is complete and metered parking is also available close by.

The $70-million investment will cover construction of a new intensive care unit, 7,000-sq.-ft. of enhanced space for the Western Manitoba Cancer Centre, as well as renovations and expansion to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Renovations will also include a new intensive care unit with additional staffed adult beds, approximately 30 new medicine beds. Construction is expected to be completed by the summer of 2025.
