“The house and everything in it is gone. I have no idea what I’m going to do now, none.” Those are the words of Jody Kardash (Owner/Operator of Miss Kleos Pet Treats in Winnipeg). Kardash whose home business was destroyed by fire this past weekend recently spoke with CBC news while still processing what happened. Not only did she lose her home business and everything in it she lost one of her most prized possessions, her Jack Russell terrier Martini who died from smoke inhalation.
Kardash’s bungalow located in Charleswood was gutted by fire early Saturday morning. In a recent interview, Kardash told CBC news she "left home around 6 a.m. to set up as usual at the St. Norbert Farmers' Market and got a call from a neighbour an hour later alerting her of the blaze. She raced home to find as many as eight fire trucks at the scene.

She raced home to find as many as eight fire trucks at the scene.” They were able to get the blaze under control by 9:35 a.m. but by that time damage was extensive and not much of anything could be salvaged. The cause of the blaze is still under investigation.
In a video recording posted on her Facebook page, Kardash (originally from Brandon, Manitoba) said “The house is gone, completely gutted. So that means the business is gone too. I have nothing left. Kierra luckily made it out of the house, but Martini didn’t. Thank you all so much for all your messages of support.” This year has been especially tough for Kardash, she recently lost her brother and another pet (Harley). She’s currently living at a friend’s house as she contemplates how she’ll recover.

On behalf of the maker community and Manitoba residents, we are coming together to raise money for our sweet Jody from Miss Kleos Pet Treats. As most of you know by now, Jody lost her home to a fire in the early morning of June 25. Unfortunately, Martini, one of Jody’s dogs did not make it. We are heartbroken for Jody and want to show her our support during this difficult time. All funds raised will go towards rebuilding and restarting.
