UPDATES TO MARYLAND AVENUE SEWER

Brandon, MB – City of Brandon Engineering Services is increasing a portion of the existing wastewater sewer network located in the Maryland Park area. Work is being completed on the south side of the Brandon Municipal Cemetery off 18th Street and continuing along the north side of Magnolia Drive to 9th Street.

The project is to upsize the existing sewer network to be able to better handle existing peak flows that have resulted from developments in the area to the south, as well as proactive measures to be able to accommodate future growth and developments in the area.

Earth Max Construction Inc. is the contractor hired to complete the project. Work began in 2022, but due to unfavorable seasonal weather conditions, the project was required to be put on hold with continuation planned for early 2023. Work has commenced in the area again and is expected to be finished by early June.

To ensure the continuous conveyance of wastewater sewer flows, a bypass pumping system is required. By-pass pumping operations require large above-ground hoses and pumps to divert sewer flows which must run continuously, 24 hours per day. Some noise disturbance can be expected in the area.

The walkway will be closed from 9th Street to 18th Street on Magnolia Drive. Pedestrians should use Aberdeen Avenue in place of the walkway on Magnolia Drive. Road closures can be expected in the area to facilitate the bypass pumping operations and will change based on the phasing of the work. The most current closures and detour information can be viewed on roadclosures.brandon.ca
