On Saturday, November 19, 2022, at 6:25 p.m. Virden RCMP officers received a call regarding a disturbance at a residence located in the Sioux Valley Dakota First Nation.
Officers and EMS responded to the call and located a 30-year-old female with serious injuries who was pronounced deceased on the scene.
A man from Sioux Valley Dakota First Nation was arrested on the scene and placed in police custody. The next day following their investigation November 20, 2022, RCMP charged the 20-year-old male, Ernie Blacksmith, with First Degree Murder in relation to this homicide.
He was placed into custody for a court appearance scheduled for Monday, November 21, 2022, in Brandon.
Virden RCMP along with RCMP Major Crime Services and Forensic Identification Services continue to investigate.
