Brandon, MB – The deadline to register campaigns for the position of Mayor, City Councillor or School Trustee is Tuesday, September 20th, 2022 between the hours of 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Potential candidates must make an appointment to file nomination papers. Arrangements can be made with the Senior Election Official by emailing brandonvotes@brandon.ca or calling 204-729-2206.
The official nomination period opened on Wednesday, September 14th and runs until the end of business day on Tuesday, September 20th. More information about the October 26th municipal election can be found at brandonvotes.ca.
As of today (Tuesday, September 20th, 2022), there are no competitors in the Mayoral race, Jeff Fawcett remains the lone candidate to have filed for nomination. As for the Ward Councilor positions, six of the 10 wards remain uncontested.
The Brandon Municipal Election is Wednesday, October 26th. Voter turnout for the 2018 civic election was a mere 16.86 percent with only 6,185 of an eligible 36,675 eligible voters making their way to the polls. The poor voter turnout in 2018 marked a drop of over 50 percent from the 42 percent in the 2014 election.
