Impaired Driver Flees from Police On 18th Street Saturday Afternoon

Flight from Police, Dangerous Driving

Around 12:30 pm on Saturday, an impaired driver was observed by witnesses in the area of 18th St and Richmond Ave. Further information revealed the suspect vehicle may be stolen. The vehicle, a red Dodge Grand Caravan, was observed by an officer on 18th St. It was located stopped at a red light northbound on 18th St. and Park and a vehicle stop was conducted. 

As the officer exited his vehicle to speak with the driver, the vehicle pulled around the police cruiser, striking the back fender as well as a second vehicle stopped in traffic. The driver of the van sped North on 18th St at a high rate of speed and was last observed at Victoria Ave.  No pursuit of the suspect vehicle was engaged due to heavy traffic on 18th St and the driving of the suspect vehicle. 

There was minor damage to the police cruiser and the second vehicle. No one was injured. The driver of the suspect vehicle has been identified and an arrest warrant will be issued for his arrest on Monday on charges of Assaulting a Peace Officer with a Weapon, Dangerous Driving and Flight from Police.

 

Domestic Assault

A disturbance at a residence in the 1200 block of 6th St on Saturday afternoon lead to the arrest of a 42-year-old Brandon man.  Officers attended to the residence for a dispute between a man and a woman.  The woman left before the officers arrived however when she returned later, she was assaulted by the man.  He also assaulted another woman in the residence by spitting on her.  Officers arrested the man at the residence and when he was searched a set of brass knuckles were in his pocket.  He will appear in court on Sunday morning on charges of Assault x 2, Possession of a Prohibited weapon and Fail to Comply with an Undertaking.

 

Possession of Weapon

At 12:23 am on Sunday morning, an officer stopped a male riding a bicycle in the 700 block of Southern Ave.  The male argued with the officer and after he was subdued, a folding switchblade knife was found in his pocket. The bicycle he was riding was determined to be stolen.  The male, a 38-year-old man with no fixed address, was arrested and will appear in court on Sunday on charges of Possession of a Prohibited weapon, Possessing stolen property, Possession of a weapon Failing to comply with a probation order and Possession of a Prohibited weapon for a dangerous purpose.

 

Residential Fire

At 1137 pm on Saturday, officers attended a house fire on Aster Crescent. A neighbour observed flames coming from a basement window.  It was quickly determined that no one remained in the residence, which is a duplex with two residences. Brandon Fire and Emergency Service attended and the fire in the basement was extinguished.   The fire was caused by a blanket on a bed falling too close to a space heater.

 

Domestic Assault

At 5:34 am on Sunday, a woman called BPS reporting she was assaulted by her partner at their residence on Princess Ave. She stated he had grabbed her hair and punched her.  The suspect, a 29-year-old Brandon man, was arrested and released to appear in court in December.

 

Impaired Driving

At 2:02 am on Sunday morning, a vehicle narrowly missed colliding with a police cruiser in the parking lot of a restaurant in the 1900 block of Richmond Ave.  The vehicle was stopped and the driver showed obvious signs of impairment as well has having open liquor in the vehicle.  The driver, an 18-year-old Brandon resident, will have his license suspended for 90 days and his vehicle impounded for 30 days.

 

Other Arrests

Two People were lodged for Breach of Peace.

A 23-year-old Brandan woman was arrested on a warrant. She will appear in court on Sunday morning.
