Whether it’s singing in a band, on stage theatre work, hosting a radio show, doing narration or other voice work in the studio, if you work with your voice you’ll want to know about Voxsana Vodcasts. It’s a series of podcasts which discusses the best tactics and techniques to get the most out of your voice.
Just over a month ago I was pleased as punch when I was asked to be a guest vodcaster (podcast with video) with Jill on Youtube. I’ve known Jill Schettler Mitchell for just over 20 years now. She was quite active in Westman’s music scene 10 – 15 years ago before her and her husband Sean Mitchell decided to move out west to pursue their music careers and eventually start a family. Way back in the day she even filled in for one of my old bands (Groove Kitchen) when we discovered our singer had lost her voice the day of the show. At the last-minute Jill stepped up, subbed in, and saved our gig!
With Voxsana, Jill is building a spot online that deals with all things voice and how to get the most out of the instrument we all have located right there in the middle of our throat. Jill’s M.O. is to create deep, soul-enriching conversation on her favourite subject. Her subjects are people who make their living with their voices. Each month she’s joined by a guest to discuss everything from vocal strengthening techniques to favourite singers, and even some unexpected topics spawned from a fun but deep convo she’s always capable of facilitating.
The chat we had was just over an hour and it was live! It started off with some technical glitches which we fixed and rolled with on the fly. We discussed several topics including why I decided to get into the world of broadcasting, how I created an online radio station and the time I nearly lost not only my voice but my life. You can check out the full conversation via her YouTube channel with this link. The convenient thing about Jill's Voxcasts is she creates chapters within them which you'll see when you check them out on her YouTube page. With the chapters method you can fast forward to the sections of the video that are most interesting to you. I hope you enjoy her channel and when you visit to have a look and a listen, make sure you click subscribe.
