Update from Minnedosa Golf & Country Club
On Friday, May 13th we officially lost our battle with the Little Saskatchewan River as the water breached our dyke in multiple locations. Our crew fought tirelessly all week and I can confidently say we did all we could to protect and save portions of the course that we could. Currently, there are 4 holes dealing with water running over them and the pumping process will begin when the River is back on its side of the dyke. Damage cannot be assessed until this process begins and anyone sitting how much damage has been done to the course is purely speculating. Not all rumours are true.
Our crew is now able to properly shift their focus to preparing our back nine and unaffected front nine holes to prepare them for the season. Opening day will be announced later this week and will depend on the weather patterns in the coming days, specifically rainfall amounts.
The RFM Par 3 Tournament scheduled for May 28th will be postponed to September 10th this season but that doesn’t mean there won’t be a party on May 28th at MGCC! We will be hosting a 14-hole Par 3 Fundraiser event on May 28th with Hole in One prizes, cash closest to the pins and all the fun you have come to know and love out of the RFM Par 3 and Dosa National. Full details coming in a separate post.
There was nothing anyone could have done to prevent this from happening and we are looking at the positive side and moving forward. Any hole that is not underwater has wintered amazingly well and looks in mid-season form already. We are if nothing else, the most resilient golf club and community you will find and this will not keep us down for long. As you can see I have quite easily found a way to play the first hole with a simple footwear adjustment.
We look forward to welcoming members and the public alike very soon and thank you all for your patience, understanding and patronage this season.
