BRANDON FIRE & EMERGENCY SERVICES REMINDING  RESIDENTS OF FIRE PIT SAFETY

Brandon, MB – Over the past several months, the City of Brandon has been working on the Brandon City Plan, a 30-year vision for the City of Brandon. This plan includes building on past work in facilitating growth and change in the community.

Through the months of February to June 2022, Phase 1 of the Community Engagement, the City has been engaging with the residents of Brandon for feedback on what direction they think the City should be heading in.

The purpose of Phase 1 is composed of three areas:

  1. to raise awareness regarding the Brandon City Plan
  2. gather feedback from the community to determine the City's priority themes
  3. consider policies which will shape the City's vision for the next 30 years

A variety of engagement tools were implemented to gather feedback, including:

  • an online survey with over 800 responses
  • several virtual and in-person meetings with community groups
  • social media posts with over 380 engagements
  • a project webpage with over 2,800 views
  • information and feedback posters at different key community locations

The City also hosted five community-themed workshops to talk specifically about housing, movement, and the environment. 80+ residents attended the community-themed workshops.

What We Heard

Through all the engagement sessions, we heard the following key themes:

  • Mixed-use housing/neighbourhood is encouraged in the city
  • More bike lanes and paths that connect the whole city for commuting
  • Less reliance on cars and opportunities to incorporate active transportation
  • Prioritize infill development and proactive updates to building codes
  • Improve the perception of safety in downtown Brandon

We engaged with over 150 residents, generating hundreds of comments and ideas during Phase 1. The City of Brandon thanks everyone who provided feedback throughout Phase 1 of the Community Engagement.

What's Next?

Phase 2 of the Community Engagement will start in the Fall of 2022. There will be additional opportunities to have your voice heard on key topics and areas of change.
