BSD Disassociating From Coast to Coast Walkout

A controversial movement against schools that may be supporting gender alternatives is picking up steam and creating further division between those who disagree with certain ideologies.

Numerous demonstrations are planned to occur under the “1 Million March 4 Children” banner at legislatures, city halls, and school board offices across the country on September 20th. These demonstrations seek to eliminate the Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity (SOGI) curriculum and policies from Canadian schools.

Locally, the Brandon School Division is aware of this movement and appears to be defiantly against it. According to a three-part post on its X social media account, BSD states the following: "Brandon School Division is aware of information circulating in the community regarding a “Coast to Coast Walkout” or “#1 Million March 4 Children” on September 20th. This event is not associated with the Brandon School Division. Any posters or messaging regarding this topic are not from or endorsed by Brandon School Division. September 20th is a regular instructional day and as such, all students and staff are expected to be in attendance for the full day."

Meanwhile, the week of September 15-21, 2023 has been proclaimed as "Peace Days" in Manitoba by the Honourable Minister of Education & Early Childhood Learning, Wayne Ewasko.
