AGE FRIENDLY BRANDON COMMITTEE RELEASE 2ND EDITION OF THE BRANDON SENIORS RESOURCE GUIDE
Brandon, MB – City Council’s Age Friendly Brandon Committee and Brandon Seniors for Seniors Co-op Inc. are happy to announce their continued collaboration with the development of the 2nd edition of the Brandon Seniors Resource Guide.
Brandon City Councillor Heather Karrouze, a member of the Age Friendly Brandon Committee states, “The Brandon Seniors Resource Guide is of tremendous benefit to our citizens of age as they strive to be fully engaged in their community. The Age Friendly Committee’s diligence in producing and distributing this guide and in encouraging us to view Brandon’s opportunities through an age-friendly lens is to be commended.”
The initial launch of the 1st edition in January 2022 was very well received in the community and the Age Friendly Committee believes this 2nd edition will continue that momentum. Many directories and online resources are available; however, the group realized that seniors within the community may find it difficult to navigate through these resources, and often prefer a document in their hands. As a result, the Brandon Seniors Resource Guide project was born.
Nancy McPherson, Chair Age Friendly Brandon states, “Age Friendly Brandon is committed to creating a community where older adults are as active, engaged, and healthy as they can be. This resource guide is an important tool to achieve that goal because it addresses a range of personal interests, provides answers to some questions about services and supports, and identifies opportunities for older adults to become more socially connected. It may be challenging to know where to start and this guide is a good first step!”
Efforts have been made to ensure this document is as accurate and user friendly as possible. Assembly has been a collaborative effort by Brandon Seniors for Seniors Co-op Inc. and Age Friendly Brandon and does not reflect any endorsement of any company or service by these organizations. If a business or organization would like to be included in a subsequent edition of the book, and fit our criteria for inclusion, please contact the Age Friendly Brandon Telephone Information Line at 204-729-2525.
Some directories are being distributed to locations where older adults are less mobile; however, Brandon Seniors for Seniors Co-op Inc (311 Park Ave East) has copies for anyone interested in picking up a copy.
