Free French Fry Day July 24th

15,000 Bags Expected to be Consumed on Free French Fry Day!

It's estimated Canadians eat a quarter of a billion metric tonnes of french fries per year! It would be safe to say the single-day french fry consumption record could be surpassed on Sunday, July 24. That day will be a good one for french fry lovers in Manitoba.

McCain Foods, in partnership with Enns Brothers, will be hosting french fry giveaway day events in Brandon, Winnipeg and Steinbach. The event will raise funds for Ronald McDonald House Charities Manitoba and STARS Air Ambulance Manitoba. Donations will be accepted at the event with the goal to raise $200,000 collectively at the three locations.

McCain’s and Enns Brothers, which operate nine John Deere dealerships in Manitoba, expect to give away nearly 15,000 bags of french fries on July 24.

President and CEO of Enns Brothers Ray Bouchard says, "Thanks to the generous contribution from McCain Foods, we’re excited to host this trifecta event and welcome the chance to support three things that are important to us – our communities, our families, and Manitoba potato growers.”

Covid-19 has made things difficult for potato growers in Manitoba and right across Canada. The pandemic forced the closure of restaurants which cut consumption of french fries and reduced potato acres in 2020. The French Fry giveaway event serves as a reminder of how important Manitoba’s potato industry is.

The July 24 Free Fry Day giveaway will be held in Brandon at the Keystone Centre, from 9 a.m. to noon. In Winnipeg, it will be from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Assiniboia Downs parking lot. The Steinbach location has yet to be announced.
